THE WEST Devon Benefice Choir is inviting people to an evening of musical entertainment in Yelverton next Thursday.

The choir pieces include songs from The Sound of Music, Joseph, Oklahoma and HMS Pinafore.

The Rev Nick Shutt, rector of the benefice, will be introducing each item.

Among the solos is Howard Goodall's version of The Lord is my Shepherd. The madrigal group is singing two short pieces by John Dowland and Orlando Gibbons.

Dr Sean Sweeney will be playing Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor on the Nicholson organ and Ron Keates will be playing one of is own compositions on the piano.

Other pieces will include Pie Jesu, Linden Lea and the Choral Dance from Borodin's Prince Igor as well as piano and singing duets.

There will also be three poetry readings, including Betjeman's Diary of a Church Mouse.

The event will take place at St Paul's Church in Yelverton on Thursday June 30 at 7.30pm.
