IN CELEBRATION of a West Devon community computer training organisation's third birthday, three people will receive a special offer.
People visit the shop in the pannier market at a time to suit them and have an hour and 15-minute lesson. During the lesson, Janet, the tutor, talks to the student to find out what their interest and abilities are. She then makes an individual plan on what subject and what level the learner will need to start and progress to. Janet is a qualified trainer and has experience of teaching for the past 15 years.
The organisation is a non-profit making company aiming to serve the community. It does not receive government funding and raises its own income. Lessons take place at the back of the shop and usually cost £65 for six lessons over six weeks, or one lesson for £15.
In celebration of its third year, the organisation is offering three people six free lessons each.
The offer is for people who are unemployed and own their own laptop and would benefit from writing a CV or letters of application or learn some skills that will help them get a job.
Applicants must write a brief hand-written note giving their name, age (over 18s only), address and telephone number. It also needs one sentence about what you want to learn and why.
The winners will be chosen strictly by the content of the answer. Closing date to enter is October 2, and winners will be announced on October 9. Post applications to 5 East End Stores, The Pannier Market, Tavistock, PL19 8BJ, or just drop it through the shop letterbox.
The shop is currently closed due to refurbishment but will be re-opened by the town mayor on Tuesday October 2 at 11am.
