TAVISTOCK and Villages (TaVi) Development Forum and Westden will be holding its next quarterly 'GrowTavi Open Forum' meeting next Tuesday at the Wharf in Tavistock.
GrowTavi is an open forum platform which brings together representatives from the public, private, third and voluntary sectors to discuss all aspects of local food supply and production.
Networking benefits have included matching the National Trust site Buckland Abbey to the Buckland Food Group, who are now in the process of setting up a community growing project, including vegetables, pigs, chickens and more.
January's meeting will be the fourth GrowTavi Open Forum and will focus on food waste and in particular composting. GrowTavi is pleased to host Nicky Scott from the Devon Community Composting Network (DCCN) and Proper Job based in Chagford.
Nicky is widely regarded as the composting 'guru' and will be giving a talk and taking questions from the audience. If you have any queries about getting into composting or improving your existing systems, he will be of great help.
The meeting, between 2pm and 4pm, will also include other guest speakers, a short video and updates on TaVi projects. There will also be updates about Westden's work on the Community Landscape Network (CLaN) and Transition Tavistock's important work on tackling climate change and peak oil.
