MUSIC by a Tavistock composer is set to be featured in a special concert in London's internationally renowned Royal Albert Hall next month.

Andrew Wilson's work 'Omfra's Laugh' tells the traditional story of a Cornish pixie's efforts to find his lost laugh, searching throughout the West until, at Arthur's Court, Merlin restores it in the form of a Cornish chough.

The members of the Truro Youth String Orchestra, conducted by Tim Boulton, won a top award for their performance of the piece in the Music for Youth National Festival earlier this year and have been asked to repeat it at the 'Schools' Prom', a showcase of the finest young musicians in the country, to be held at the prestigious London concert hall.

Andrew, who was director of Music at Kelly College for many years, was delighted with the news.

He said: 'Although my music has been performed all over the world, from Edinburgh to Japan, the Royal Albert Hall has to be the venue every composer dreams of reaching.

'I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of this year's Schools' Prom and to have had the opportunity to compose for such a talented and committed group of players.'
