TWENTY two organisations took part in an exhibition day in Bratton Clovelly recently — the catalyst for the development of a parish plan — which was attended by more than 140 parishioners.

The colourful displays in the parish hall highlighted what each organisation was about, their needs for the future in this special consultation exercise to get everyone involved in how their community develops over the next 20 years.

People from all corners of the parish came along and expressed their views. Borough councillor John Hockridge said: 'It is great to see everyone working together and getting grass roots opinion.

'This is the way community planning is best carried forward.'

A creche was provided by Bratton Clovelly Under Fives Group and a minibus pick-up arranged for those needing help with transport.

There were displays from the youth club, playgroup, Boasley Primary School, the church, Sunday club, Pack Horse Singers, brownies, arts group, gardening club, WI, transport group and many more.

Representatives from Germansweek, Beaworthy, Northlew, Sourton and Stowford parishes also attended to see how they could link with solving common problems such as increasing access to public transport.

The next step will be to circulate a questionnaire, based on comments made and problems identified at the exhibition, to every household in the parish.

This will ensure as many people as possible are involved in deciding the priorities for the future of the parish and what action is necessary to achieve them.

Bratton Clovelly Parish Plan Steering Group organised the exhibition with support from the Countryside Agency, West Devon Borough Council and the Community Council of Devon.
