THE development of football in Horrabridge went under the spotlight at a special event in the village last week. Horrabridge Rangers Sports Association invited members of the local community to hear how the club has progressed in the last two seasons and what it aimed to achieve in the future. Attending the evening were Devon county councillor Gretta Madigan, Sally Monk of West Devon Borough Council, David Cloke, chairman of the parish council and John Meehan of Horrabridge Primary School. They were entertained by David Tall, assistant chief executive at Plymouth Argyle FC and Ian Mulholland, who gave a presentation of on the achievements and projections for Horrabridge Rangers. Mr Mulholland said the aim of Horrabridge Rangers was to encourage and promote the development of football in the community, with particular emphasis on youth teams. ?The club will strive to provide an opportunity for players of both sexes to participate in football at all levels. We will endeavour to facilitate the provision of the best playing amenities and equipment available to us, in line with the growth of sport in Horrabridge.? David Keast, Devon FA football development officer congratulated everyone involved with Horrabridge Rangers and said the club was a credit to football, not just locally but county-wide. Mr Keast added that Horrabridge Rangers FA Charter Standard Community Award had been passed to the FA for its consideration. And last weekend West Devon and Torridge MP John Burnett visited the village to view the facilities used by the club at the recreation field. During his visit he heard of the recreation field trust?s wish to upgrade the pavilion, watched the Under 12s team play and the warm-up session for the Under 16s and the adult team.
