SPORTS clubs, community groups and staff from OCRA are giving up their free time ahead of the OCRA Christmas variety gala on Friday, December 20.

The gala evening kicks off in Okehampton College's Octagon Theatre at 7pm.

There is a long list of local people and clubs performing songs, dance numbers and more, with FOOTSteps Dance Academy, Jessica Squire's Dance Academy, the OCRAdettes and the OCRA Dance Club among those taking part.

Following the entertainment in the college, guests are invited to join in a candle-lit walk to the OCRA Pavilion, for the chance to sing Christmas carols, and enjoy mince pies and mulled wine.

Sue Doidge from OCRA said: 'We would like to make this successful so that it could become part of the Christmas programme for Okehampton each year along with all the other things that happen.

'Staff, parents, dancers, singers and performers are giving their time for free. We are deep into rehearsals at the moment, with a final run through before the performance.

'The whole idea and driving force behind this is a lady called Lynne Rogers who is a local woman committed to the community spirit of Okehampton.

'Many of the ladies and children are from her classes and working with other dance instructors and individuals has come up with this amazing show.

'People have got in touch with Lynne to be in the show such is her enthusiasm. Other local people have become involved with the lighting, sound, making of costumes all to support the fundraiser.'

Tickets cost £8 for adults and £4.50 for under 16s, children under three can attend for free.
