IT would seem that the bus companies have taken on board the issues of Health and Safety.
Their directions to passengers to remain seated until the bus has stopped are to be admired. The drawback to obeying such advice is that if there are no passengers waiting at your stop you run the risk of the bus moving off before you reach the door, or if there are passengers getting on, getting knocked down in the stampede. We can only hope that good sense will prevail.
However, should there not be the same safeguards applied for passengers embarking on the bus?
More often than not the drivers tend to drive off when one is making one's way to one's seat or, worse, halfway up the stairs. As many passengers are elderly, it is only a matter of time before this practice causes a serious accident, if this has not already happened.
