Tavistock Ladies 7 Sidmouth 0 ON a lovely day the game opened with Tavistock looking to dominate from the early stages of the match. Nikki Woodroffe and Sarah Barratt for Tavistock worked well together in the centre midfield and with Becky Lamb making some good runs up the pitch Tavistock seemed to have the edge. However, careless possession of the ball and not looking before the ball was distributed resulted in Sidmouth taking the offensive. But timely tackles from Susannah Boulle and Fiona Dunn intervened and the ball could be fed back to Laura Stapleton and Lisa Butler. Lamb scored the first goal for Tavistock from a combination of quick wittedness and skilful play. This lifted the team and their efforts seemed to dominate once again. Judy Miller had been moving from post to post in the 'D' and this resulted in her claiming the second goal of the match and by half-time Tavistock were 2-0 up. However the team knew that they were not playing some of their best hockey and after a talk from captain, Fiona Dunn, Tavistock went back out and clearly took the match to the opposition. Jo Gaspar worked well and made some lovely chips off the ball to her wide supporting players. Barratt, who as always worked hard, scored the third goal of the match. Tavistock were confident in their game play and despite some poor tackling which lost possession of the ball, the team re-grouped and Sarah Holton worked well through all the positions she played in the match. Miller scored the fourth goal for the home side as she was able to slot the ball neatly past the keeper. Laura Armstrong had a good game and was useful in getting back and helping to defend. She was then able to drive the ball back up the pitch and cross it to Lamb and Woodroffe. Armstrong scored the fifth goal. Dunn had one of her drives up the pitch again and fed the ball to the top of the D. For Tavistock Butler had to come off due to injury. This could have thrown some teams but Tavistock held firm and Lamb scored a lovely goal as the ball was switched around and then fed back to her. The final goal came from Boulle from a short corner. Tavistock were pleased with this result despite it not being one of their better games.
