Buckland v Ordulph Taverners
THIS game was always going to be a mismatch with Ordulph going up against a strong Buckland with only three recognised front-end batsmen.
Buckland's bowlers dominated with a superb spell of seam bowling from the opening attack of Osborne and Tomkies who never let Ordulph settle.
With the exception of Whitfield with another superb 50, none of the other Ordulph batsmen troubled the Buckland attack as Osborne (3 for 39) and Tomkies slowly but surely ground Ordulph down.
With all of Ordulph's main batsmen accounted for even the Buckland first change bowlers brought no respite for Ordulph as Harris and Elkington carried on where the openers left off by piously giving nothing away.
With the Ordulph score on a paltry 79 a stubborn last wicket stand of ten overs from Lethbridge and Folley saw Harris take himself off, allowing Sam Holdsworth to force Lethbridge into playing on for the last Ordulph wicket.
Defending such a low score Ordulph's heart was never really in it.
The cheap removal of Tomkies by pace — man Evans and Osborne to Dhanjal was nothing other than a consolation to Ordulph as Elkington blasted a rapid 48 to put Ordulph out of their misery in a little under 15 overs. Buckland won by eight wickets.
Ordulph are starting to pay the price for a lack of availability of their better players while on this showing Buckland again will be serious challengers for the title.
