FOR those in West Devon who enjoy playing and listening to music in the style of the Shadows, 'Rock 'n' Roll' and other 1950/60s genre music, an enthusiasts' club is looking for new members.

The South West Shadows Club meets monthly at the Exeter Court Hotel, Kennford near Exeter, and it owns and provides the equipment needed to get the authentic 'vintage' tones, including amplifiers, echo units, public address system, microphones and monitor speakers. Players only need bring their chosen musical instrument.

Club administrator Gary Willmott, said: 'With a growing membership, it is very much a players' club, seeking to provide confidence and a performance experience in a really friendly atmosphere.

'Newcomers are usually surprised to find how quickly they blend in as part of the group‚ perhaps attending a few times before playing, but there are also non-players who like to just come and watch, having now become regulars.

'For the player/improver there are members who are experienced both in technique and technical knowledge, providing positive help and feedback.

Entry is free and club meetings are a mix of performing to backing tracks and forming into ad hoc bands, comprising guitarists, drummer, keyboard and vocalists, depending on who is available on the day.

'For many, South West Shadows Club has become a social way of life that extends beyond meetings, providing motivation and an opportunity to enjoy and share their music with friends and family,' said Gary.
