YOUNG Farmers clubs based on and around Dartmoor are making a bid to seek out the young people who live on and around the moor.
The current members of the eight clubs, Tavistock, Roborough, Okehampton, Chagford, Cheriton Tedburn, Newton Abbot, Totnes and Ivybridge believe there are many young people who are missing out on the opportunities and advantages available through the YF network.
With the help and support of the Dartmoor National Park and Devon County Council, who are jointly funding this project, the young farmers hope to get their message across to the young people of Dartmoor.
The project is simply known as the 'Dartmoor Management Group', or 'DMG' and the young people will lead and develop it during the next six months.
To raise the profile of young people and the YFCs in the Dartmoor area, the DMG are holding two bonfire bonanza evenings, where young people aged from 13 to 26 are invited to come along to enjoy the fun, and meet others.
Anyone interested can come to either Higher Mead Farm at Ashburton or to Okehampton, on Saturday November 8, both events start at 7pm.
The YFC movement has huge opportunities available — the chance to travel abroad, improve your skills, from public speaking to pottery, plus a great social life and you do not have to be a farmer to join.
