CALLINGTON Rugby Club is looking for more players to join them next season - both on the field as well as to enjoy the active social side the club has to offer. The season of 2006-2007 has been a difficult year for Callington and has seen many ups and downs over the playing season - the club says in its annual report. Club spokesman Geoff Wearing told the Times: ?There have been many games that have been won and lost but what may not be seen are the activities that go on behind the scenes of such a club. Callington RFC has been going for 11 seasons, is little different to that of other clubs. We may not have our own stadium to play in or vast amounts of money to delve into, but as a club we can offer something that may not be found elsewhere. ?Like many sports clubs the action starts in training where players both old and new learn new ball skills and train hard to perfect them. It helps bond the squad as a whole and prepare them for the season ahead. The great thing about rugby though is that it doesn?t stop at the final whistle of the game.? Social activities, says Geoff, continue to bring the team and the community together. ?This includes people of all walks of life from across the town and the age range. The players may form the core of the club, without which there would be no club. But there are always jobs within the team for anybody willing to join in with the fun, often filled by former players or those simply affiliated with the club but don?t play. Not all of the enjoyment is on the pitch!? Callington are looking to increase the amount of social events that they carry out. This includes barbecues for family and friends to weekend trips to local venues. At the end of the season the club also holds its annual tour. Past tours have included France, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Newcastle and Amsterdam. Over the past few months of training Callington has had several new players join its ranks and the squad is still growing. Geoff said: ?All players of all ages and ability are welcome. You don?t even have to have played before. Full training is provided, all you need is to come aong and an appetite to learn. ?If you would like to join Callington RFC come along to training, which is held on a Wednesday night from 7pm at Duchy College.
