St Austell 1

Okehampton Columbines 2

OKEHAMPTON Ladies? hockey team struggled to find their form in the first half with poor passing and a lack of cohesion.

When St Austell went ahead early in the second half from an unfortunate Okehampton own goal, they just about deserved the lead.

But the goal galvanised the Columbines into action and the team threw everything at St Austell.

It was not long before Okehampton equalised when Caroline Friend fought back to win the ball for Beccy Mortimore, who passed down the wing to Kelly Cooper.

A lovely cross from Cooper was met in the middle by Viv Weatherington to deflect into goal at the end of a fine team move. Cooper scored only a few minutes later to knock St Austell?s confidence.

Columbines kept the pressure on with Sandy Douglas bringing the ball out of defence and taking on St Austell players.

Carol Turner also had another solid game at centre back, but in the dying seconds it was captain Sharon Stephens who won the game for Okehampton with a brilliant save from a close-range shot.

This was the last fixture before Christmas, with Columbines unbeaten in the league this season.
