Okehampton Columbines 4 Bodmin 5 OKEHAMPTON ladies? hockey team went into the lead within minutes of the game when Jo Moppett did her hot knife through the butter of defenders to score. Unfortunately a knee injury to Claire Smith reduced the team to ten for a while until Claire bravely returned to goal hang although severely limited in movement. The first half finished with the score 3-1 to Bodmin despite some good defending and dangerous attacks by Okehampton with Jo Stephens crossing the ball beautifully but Okehampton not quite getting it past the goal line. In the second half the pace picked up even more and Claire?s goal hanging paid off with two goals. A superbly taken short corner saw the ball crack into the back of the goal with a shot from Sue Stanbury. Okehampton were now in the lead with the score 4-3. Some splendid work by goalie Sharon Stephens, ably supported by her defenders, kept Bodmin at bay. At one point Sharon successfully challenged a break through by Bodmin?s attack when she was alone in the circle but the follow through led to the score becoming 4-4. A fifth goal by Bodmin in the last five minutes left Okehampton the losers but feeling satisfied with their performance in this fast paced and well played game. This week Okehampton is away to Bude.
