Okehampton Columbines 3

St Agnes 3

IN a fast flowing game of hockey Okehampton created the first few scoring chances.

Jo Stephens made some dangerous runs down the right wing, sending the ball across the face of the circle to convert some excellent chances.

When St Agnes scored it was against the run of play, but was a well-taken strike from a short corner.

Okehampton were unlucky when a goal was awarded to St Agnes after one of their players had blatantly kicked it.

There was more discipline in Okehampton?s game in the second half with better passing and players supporting each other.

Claire Smith was quick to the ball at right half, snuffing out much of the St Agnes left attack.

Okehampton put pressure on the St Agnes goal and pulled one back in a goalmouth scramble.

Columbines were always pushing forward for another goal, but conceded one to make it look unlikely they were going to get anything out of the game.

With the help of supporters pushing them on from the side Okehampton did not give up and good hockey from Stephens and Jo Moppett at centre forward saw each of them score to give Okehampton the draw, although Elaine Morgan had to come to the rescue at the back in the dying minutes.

Okehampton were unable to secure their place in the league and will go back down a league next year.

This week, Columbines play Teignmouth away in the Devon Plate tournament.
