Okehampton Columbines 2 Paignton 2 PAIGNTON had the confidence of being top of the league and started the brighter of the two sides. But Okehampton kept them at bay and began to create chances of their own with some good inter-play between Jo Moppett and Jo Stephens. Paignton always looked threatening though, and Netty Collett had to make a number of tackles to stop their forwards getting clear on goal. But it was only a matter of time and Okehampton will have felt unlucky when Paignton scored two in fairly quick succession just before half-time. In the second half the Okehampton players all worked and ran tirelessly and could have taken all three points. Moppett particularly never gave up and it was her fine strike that opened the scoring for Columbines. From then on the Paignton goal was under a great deal of pressure as Okehampton did all they could to get an equaliser, which finally came from Viv Weatherington when Abbie Colton flicked the ball on to set up the chance. There was still a great deal of defending to do, which Amanda Sim handled calmly and confidently, and Sharon Stephens always had to be alert in goal. Okehampton were awarded a penalty when a Paignton player deliberately stopped a goal with her foot, but rather unjustly, the Paignton goalkeeper made an excellent save to prevent Okehampton taking the lead. All in all, the Okehampton side played very well in what was the last league game of the season.
