Trelawney division one
Okehampton ladies 6
Tavistock ladies 3
AS the league season edges towards completion this was a very significant game for both teams.
Tavistock, who had beaten Oke ladies 7-3, earlier in the season, started strongly and the determined rush of the forwards created the first goal by player of the match Becky Lamb after five minutes. Jo Moppett opened the scoring for Okehampton with a diagonal slice that gave the hard working Tavistock goalie little chance.
Viv Weatherington then put Okehampton in the lead by finishing off a neat bit of team work amongst the forwards following a short corner. Becky Lamb struck back for the visitors, again off a short corner; Tavistock forwards were all over goalie Sophie Whiteley leaving little space for defensive play.
But then Okehampton really began to get into their stride. The half line of Alex Collins, Amanda Sim (player of the match for Okehampton), Joey Drake and Viv Weatherington effectively took control of the centre; very little got past them. What did was picked up either by the superb tackling, blocking and marking of Sandi Douglas, Carol Taylor and Jane Jones.
This shape and excellent team work supported the attacks of Lesley Bingham, Jo Moppett and Kim Davey who were most effective with snappy passes and acceleration that gave them chance after chance of scoring.
Before half time the score edged up to 5-2 with goals finished by Lesley Bingham and Kim Davey. Centre back Jane Jones contributed well through supporting the attacking short corners.
The second half was more of a slog as the Tavistock team retreated into its half and despite many superb attacking movements it was hard to break through the press. Kim Davey got Okehampton's sixth goal with a superb and unexpected back stick strike. The Tavistock forwards counter attacked with determined attacks leading to Emma White scoring the final goal.
