Okehampton Ladies Columbines Hockey Team 6 Dartmouth 0 OKEHAMPTON, still top of the league, entered this game with some confidence. They went ahead with good teamwork, finished nicely by Jo Drake. Dartmouth had the majority of the play but determined work by the defence, with some last-second solitary stands by Abi Colton, stopped them scoring. Jo Moppett did a splendid attacking run to raise the score to 2-0 at half-time. Viv Weatherington, came on after half-time and quickly scored, showing that, despite lay off from injury, the old skill is still there. Soon after captain Alex Collins scored off a dramatic high ball. The fifth goal was again Weatherington, finishing off some lovely team passing among all the forwards, running rings around the opposition. Dartmouth were unlucky and were on the attack for a good proportion of the game. Steadfast and confident play by Jenny Humphries at centre back won her the player of the match award from the gallant Dartmouth. Good channelling between Sandy Douglas and Jane Jones prevented breaks down Dartmouth?s right wing. Goalie Sophie Whiteley was busier than one might suppose but her determined work, sometimes right on the goal-line, kept Dartmouth from crossing those crucial last few centimetres. Sophie was ably supported by the backs, including Abi Colton who cleared the ball well with Carol Taylor at centre half providing an excellent pivot for Okehampton?s play. The final whistle went as a short corner was called. This was taken in fine style by Jo Moppett who had played her usual brilliant and opposition destroying game throughout. She hit a cracking ball past the valiant but increasingly depressed Dartmouth defence to finish the match. l Okehampton Ladies play home again this week at 2.30pm against Mannamead Seconds.
