Okehampton Colts 27 Tavistock Colts 7 THIS proved to be a competitive local derby with Okehampton?s forwards dominating the scrummage and looking more dangerous in the backs. The home side opened with a Mark Shields penalty after seven minutes. Searle and Dutfield worked hard and Young had another impressive game. Tackling was fierce on both sides but strong running from Shields at inside centre coupled with an inside step saw him almost reach the line, a deft inside pop to Number 8 Simon Bennett gave the try which Herrod-Taylor converted. Tavistock gave a good account of themselves with ruck and maul and sucessive penalties saw them work upfield. A quick break by scrum half Sherlock cracked the defence and a quick transfer of ball to flanker Gorman saw him dive in under the posts for a half time score of 10-7. Okehampton were never troubled defensively again as strategic replacements took effect. Cox caused havoc with the Tavistock backs keeping them on the back foot and Sizmur added to the attack with probing runs. Powell scored in the corner from an overlap and foul play from a Tavistock forward led to him being sent off. Two more backs? tries followed. The first was from a box kick which Herrod-Taylor followed up and stole the ball running in for a try while the second saw Shields pick up a well deserved try which he converted. Jones crossed the line in the dying minutes of the game but was unable to control the ball and failed to ground it properly.
