Okehampton Colts 13 Barnstaple 22 THERE was plenty of tension with both sides running the ball well but Barnstaple opened the score with a penalty after 15 minutes. The home side replied with a penalty from 40 metres by Andy Herrod-Taylor. Okehampton had most of the play in the first half despite playing up the slope and were unlucky not to put more points on the board. Some last ditch tackles from Sizmur on the wing and Herrod-Taylor at full back ensured that the home side?s line was not crossed. In the second half Okehampton pressured Barnstaple?s defence until Tom Powell unlocked it, scoring by the posts for a seven pointer. Barnstaple rallied and worked quickly upfield through successive phases before their forwards scored from a rolling maul. Ian Sercombe slotted a penalty from nearly 50 metres to leave Okehampton leading by 5 points entering the last quarter. Barnstaple then used their large pack to drive downfield with excellent rolling mauls and intense pressure led to a converted try. Despite the visitors having the advantage in forward play the Okehampton pack stuck to their task with strong performances from Young, Jones and Hudson. Okehampton were shackled in their half and unable to break free when Barnstaple closed out the match with a final try.
