HISTORY students at Tavistock College's sixth form took to the sky to fly to Russia for a packed educational trip.

Twenty-three year 12 and 13 students flew to St Petersburg for a six-day trip to the cold country.

Their excursions included exploring the Peter and Paul Fortress where the remains of some of the Tsars of Russia are buried, and visiting the Winter Palace.

The students also went to see the world famous Kirov ballet at the Mariinsky Theatre and experienced a traditional Russian folk dance.

The group then moved onto Moscow where they had a tour inside the Kremlin walls, visited Lenin's tomb and explored some of the metro stations.

History teacher Andrea Gilbert said: 'It was an absolute pleasure to be part of this trip as the students were fantastic and a credit to Tavistock College.

'A special thank you must go to Mr Wilson for arranging such an incredible experience for the students, a memory which they will have with them forever.
