MORE car parking spaces for students and staff are to be made available at Tavistock Community College.
An application by the college to create 71 parking spaces was approved at West Devon Council's planning committee meeting on Tuesday.
Cllr Caroline Keene said the college was expanding and there was a 'dire need' for car parking there.
She said: 'Crowndale Road can be slowed down to just one passing lane and there are a series of buses coming in and out of college.
'It is vital that the college has adequate provision of car parking.'
And Cllr Sonia Lindsay said: 'Not only is it terrible along Crowndale Road when cars come in and out of college but it is getting quite dangerous because cars are parking all along the road. It is an accident waiting to happen.'
Cllr Richard Eberlie described Crowndale Road at the beginning and end of the school day as 'dangerous and bad'.
The new spaces will be created besides the existing car park. Tavistock College made the application as 50 existing car park spaces are to be lost to provide more amenity area for the school. The plan was supported by Tavistock Town Council.
