TAVISTOCK College?s talented U13 girls? soccer team has clinched a place in the regional semi-finals of the Coca Cola/ESFA National Schools Cup competition, following a tight win against Cornwall county champions Liskeard Community College.
After demolishing Newquay Tretherras by 10 goals to nil in the first round, Tavistock, the Devon champions, beat Liskeard 2-1 in the nail-biting quarter-final match which saw the visitors disallowed an equaliser just before the final whistle.
Coach Hayley Bray said: ?I think the girls were a bit nervous, but they improved a lot in the second half ? they?ve done really well.?
Tavistock?s goals were scored by Heidi Davies and Beccy McMullin. Player of the match was Heidi Davies.
The girls now take on Dorcon Technology College from Swindon, the Wiltshire county champions ? with the prospect of a regional final at premier league Southampton FC?s St Mary?s stadium in May.
?They?re really up for it,? said Miss Bray.
The team was due to play Dorcon at Crowndale as the Times went to press yesterday (Wednesday).

TAVISTOCK?s Ruth Cole, Steph Morgan and Katie O?Leary kept Totnes at bay until the 12th minute when a shot went past keeper Louise Galway to open the scoring.
Good passing and fast footwork led to Totnes scoring their second.
Tavistock picked away at the Totnes defence and were rewarded with a superb goal from Rhianne Parsons.
Totnes kept battling to take another three goals.
Not phased by the score Tavistock kicked in again and Parsons scored her second.
Ruth Cole covering the defence and occasionally the midfield was frustrating Totnes, but they got past to score again.
Excellent combination work from Phillips, Corrales and Parsons paid off to set up Parsons for her third goal. Totnes finished off the game with a well taken goal.
