IN division one of the Okehampton and district table tennis league Tavistock B were at home to North Wyke. Colin Brooker beat Andy Stone to put Tavistock B 1-0 ahead but Raquel Garcia levelled for North Wyke beating Bob Vella in a fifth leg decider. In a hard fought game Andy Stone beat Bob Vella 11-13, 3-11, 10-12. Colin Brooker beat David Scholfield and Raquel Garcia to put the score 3-3, beating Dave Edwards in straight sets. Tavistock then stepped up a gear winning the next three singles and the doubles for a 7-3 win for Tavistock B. Dartmoor Fringe were at home to Bridestowe for whom Phill Down did well to beat Ian Smith in five legs 8-11, 4-11, 11-6, 11-8, 8-11. Keith Smith won against Mark Tancock, who was playing his first match for three years, also in five legs. Peter Richardson put Dartmoor Fringe 2-1 up beating Francis Griffiths 12-10 also in the fifth leg. Dartmoor Fringe won the next three to go 5-1 ahead but Bridestowe pulled back to 5-3 - Francis Griffiths beating Keith Smith and Phill Down beating Peter Richardson in five legs 4-11,8-11, 13-11, 12-10, 8-11. Ian Smith won the last singles against Mark Tancock 13-11, 11-8, 9-11, 10-12, 11-3. In the doubles Phill Down and Francis Griffiths beat Ian Smith and Keith Smith in four legs, Dartmoor Fringe winning 6-4. Okehampton A were at home to Tavistock A. Fred Phillips put Tavistock ahead beating Tony Howick in four legs before Barry Vaughan levelled the score beating Peter Hicks 11-7 in the fifth leg. Tavistock won the next five singles to go 5-1 ahead. Barry Vaughan beat Roger Bowkett 11-7 in the fifth leg and Tony Hicks beat Peter Hicks in straight sets in the last singles. In the doubles Barry Vaughan and Frank Cockburn could not handle Fred Phillips and Peter Hicks, winning in straight sets for a 7-3 win for Tavistock A. In division two Okehampton West End played Okehampton B. Richard Rose put West End ahead beating Maureen Venton. In the next match Trevor Drew went down against John Howick losing in the fourth leg. Martin Rose won the next beating Dick Randell then Maureen Venton beat Trevor Drew to level at 2-2. West End won the next three then Maureen did well to beat Martin Rose 11-9, 6-11, 11-9, 8-11, 9- 11. In the last singles Richard Rose completed a fine maximum beating John Howick in straight sets. Richard and Martin teamed up and played Maureen and Dick in the doubles winning in straight sets for a match winning 7-3 to West End. Also in division two Moretonhampstead played The J Team. Nick Jackson put the J Team ahead beating Peter Denman and then went on to score another fine maximum to keep his 100% record going. Moretonhampstead levelled at 1-1 when Ken Underhill beat Naomi Jackson and then Moretonhampstead went ahead in the next David after Shilston beat Sarah Jackson. With the score at 4-4 Sarah did well to beat Peter Denman to put the J Team side 5-4 ahead then Ken and David won the doubles against Sarah and Naomi to level at 5-5.
