Okehampton Mens Hockey 1st 2 PGSOB B 2 OKEHAMPTON started slowly but managed to win a couple of short corners, Tom Forrester forcing the keeper to save twice. Okehampton were awarded a penalty flick for a stick tackle on Joff Stevens, but for the second game running Mark Parsons failed to score. Okehampton had a Simons Bourne goal disallowed before PGSOBs scored their first . They then won a penalty flick which Andrew Harvey was unfortunate not to save. In the second half, Okehampton?s Colin Lethbridge rifled home from a short corner. PGSOB?s threatened only once in the half with Mike Reynolds clearing off the line. John Cross and Ian Miller had good games, stopping several attacks. Okehampton came forward in numbers with Stevens and Lethbridge playing brilliantly. They broke down the PGSOB?s defence when Stevens had a flick on goal saved, only for Mark Parsons to scramble the ball home. Thanks go to umpires John Stephens and Andy Finley. Man of the match: Colin Lethbridge. Tavistock Men?s 2nds 3 Camborne School of Mines 0 THE seconds were looking to break the mould of the miserable start to their season. With new additions to the first team, the old guard of Cowan Snr, Barratt Snr, Honey Snr, Edwards and Costello were re-united in the second team for this Cornish battle. The match set off at a cracking pace with excellent flowing play, but Tavistock starved the opposition of possession for good periods which frustrated the students. Linking play from both sides of the field and the switching of play eventually found Edwards free in the D. The keeper was unlucky not to keep out his powerful shot, but it was the encouragement that was needed to re-invigorate the side and their game lifted. The focus drifted towards the end of the first half but the team went into the break with a 1-0 lead. Tavistock entered the second half with determination. Having taken control of the centre of the pitch covering an enormous amount of ground, Barratt dropped to a more static role with Costello in support, allowing Tom Hunter and the forwards to create opportunities for further goals. A great reading of play by Hunter and Barratt, left the latter breaking into the top of the D and a well placed strike made it 2-0. CSM had a full team of substitutes and were using them to try to wear down Tavistock?s efforts. But Tavistock?s confidence in short linking play was growing and with ten minutes to go, neat stick-work in the D from the left side of the attack found Andrews camped on the goal-line - from his favourite position it was an easy goal to take. In spite of the goal difference, this was a well-balanced game in which Tavistock made good use of their chances. Man of the match: John Barratt. This Saturday home to Penzance A, 4.30pm.
