THE 1st Drewsteignton and Chagford Cubs are celebrating after attending the annual District Camp at Chulmleigh recently and winning top prize of the camp — the Ibbotson Shield. The cubs won the prize by taking part in lots of activities, such as making a bench out of sticks and creating a safe for the groats (camp money) which they disguised as a tree. The camp had a Robin Hood theme and all the cubs took part in archery, zip wire, catapults, woggle making, baking and sewing Robin Hood hats. Cub Freddie said: 'Cub Camp was really fun — I especially liked the huge water fight at the end and the archery. 'I took part in a competition and came second. 'It was brilliant fun sleeping in a tent with all my friends.' Another cub Flo said: The catapults were pretty amazing, you got to make them yourself and then fire them at a big cardboard picture. 'I really liked meeting cubs from other packs and all the people were really friendly.' Mid Devon Scouts have cub packs in Okehampton, North Tawton, South Zeal, Crediton, Tedburn and Cheriton, Chagford and Drewsteignton and Chulmleigh.
