THE ladies of the Inner Wheel Club of Okehampton say they are pleased to announce that Mrs Joan Booth has agreed to become president for a second year.
Mrs Booth is a partner in the well-known garage business of MacCullocks in East Street.
Under her leadership last year around £1,000 was distributed to a wide range of charities.
These included: The NSPCC £50; North Devon Hospice £205; UNICEF £206; Open Door £100; Okehampton Silver Band £150; Macmillan nurses, Mencap, Rainbow Pre School and the Brownies all received £50 each and Save the Children £25. The Poppy Appeal, Hospiscare and Stop Polio also received donations.
The Inner-Wheel Club have two coffee mornings a year, mostly for local charities, but they also get involved in other events to raise funds, such as help at the Okehampton Show and the May Fair in Simmons Park. The club says none would be possible without the kind support and generosity of local people.
