BAT's Badminton Club started the second half of their season in Division 3 of the Plymouth and District Badminton League with a match against YMCA Kitto.
In the first of the men's doubles rubbers James Cooper and Alan Berry showed the way of the evening with a well worked 15-5, 15-7 victory.
The second men's doubles rubber showed how much BAT's had improved over the last season when James Cooper and Mike Ward again controlled the rubber from the start: taking it 15- 6, 15-4. The third men's doubles rubber again saw BAT's in the ascendance with Alan Berry and Mike Ward again winning comfortably 15- 8, 15-4.
In the first of the ladies' doubles rubbers Susie Povey and Frances Ward took a little time to settle into their game but once they did they won the rubber comfortably 15-9, 15-1. The same thing happened at the start of the second ladies doubles rubber with the YMCA Kitto pair beginning well but once Susie Povey and Lizzie Rae had worked things out they won easily 15-11, 15-1. The third ladies' doubles rubber again was very one sided with Frances Ward and Lizzie Rae soon ahead - a position they never relinquished when they closed out the rubber 15-8, 15- 8.
For the first time this season BAT's, had taken all three men's and all three ladies' rubbers in a match and were now determined to push home their advantage in the mixed doubles rubbers. The first mixed doubles rubber saw James and Frances continue their yearlong partnership with a crushing 15-5, 15-2 win. Alan and Susie, in the second mixed doubles rubber, took the games to the YMCA Kitto pair, particularly in the second game when, at 3-2, they decided to complete the rubber quickly 15- 7, 15-3.
The third mixed doubles rubber saw Mike and Lizzie come back after a close loss the previous week to totally dominate the Kitto pair and take the rubber 15-7, 15-4.
At the end of the evening BAT's had totally crushed any resistance that YMCA Kitto had put up during the evening and had taken their first whitewash 9-0 win of the badminton season.
