Devon Girls had an incredible weekend when both the U13s and U15s were crowned ECB National Champions.
On Saturday, Devon U15s played Wales at Sidmouth. Devon batted first and at 24-4 winning the trophy seemed a distant dream. However, Julia Hayes (51) led a spirited revival as Devon put together some useful partnerships to end on 144 - 8 after 35 overs.
In reply, Wales found themselves up against spirited bowling backed up by outstanding fielding. Hatherleigh Cricket Club all rounder, Clara Neilson had an excellent match scoring 18 not out and getting two wickets for nine runs. Although it was not her day with the bat, Clara's club mate Frances Lausen achieved a spectacular run out with a direct hit.
Devon U15s won by 59 runs as Wales were all out for 85.
On Sunday, Devon U13s travelled up to Derbyshire to play Yorkshire. It was a closer game with Devon scoring 108 in 30 overs winning by 19 runs. Hatherleigh bowler Clare Reynolds bowled well and took an important wicket.
