South Zeal Utd 4
Exeter Bohemians 3
ZEAL scored within two minutes when their first attack caused a scramble. The ball came out to Leon Ware who promptly thumped it back into the net.
Alan Vile made it 2-0 with a hard, rising shot into the top right hand corner.
A bad clearance by Zeal was picked up and converted to make it 2-1. The young Exeter side with some eye-catching youngsters had pace and ability and were always going to be a threat.
Alan Brimacombe improved the gap, receiving a through ball from his partner Alan Vile to make it 3-1.
Adam Cann had to make a diving catch to keep the score cushion intact before Simon Jones went off with a badly wrenched knee.
Bohemians took a half chance and put it under the keeper for 3-2 at half-time.
It did not take long to regain the score gap when a fumble by the visitors' keeper led to three attempts at the bobbing ball and Brimacombe made it 4-2. The same player was denied his hat-trick with a brave save and at the other end Adam Cann was beaten by a diagonal sharp shot to which he got a hand but could not stop.
The lingering thought that the visitors could steal the game re-surfaced but the domination of Reg Wonnacott in defence and the tireless chasing of everything up front by Brimacombe kept the chances of Exeter doing so down to a minimum. Adam Cann made another important save, and it ended with a close result.
This week away to Morchard Bishop, kick-off 2.30pm.
