Okehampton Ladies Seconds 1

Plymouth University Seconds 2

AFTER a convincing win last week against Plymouth Univerity's third team, Okehampton Seconds were exepecting a much harder P&D league fixture against the university's second team.

Okehampton were forced to play defensively for the first quarter with the university attack pushing hard into the Okehampton half.  Inside forwards Sophie Whiteley and Sophie Cunnington soaked up a lot of pressure, working tirelessly and tackling strongly.  Okehampton were unlucky when a University strike at goal deflected off an Okehampton defender's stick to leave goalie Jo Moppett wrong footed.

Okehampton were quick to attack back with centre forward Eve Colton spreading the ball wide to the wings.  Right wing Amanda Sim picked up one of these accurate passes, skillfully dodged a university defender before crossing the ball in front of the goal.  Left wing Annette Goswell was perfectly positioned to tap the ball past the goalie for an equaliser.

Just before half time the university team took the lead again after a goalmouth scuffle resulted in the ball finding the back of the Okehampton goal.

The second half saw Okehampton determined to equalise with several near misses from captain Sophie Whiteley and Eve Colton.

The University team always looked dangerous on the break but clever interceptions and good organisation from centre half Jeanette Collett kept them at bay.

Okehampton's under 14 player  Willemijn Rademaker had an excellent game at left half marking her opposing player tightly, tackling strongly and distributing the ball confidently.  Willemijn was awarded Okehampton's player of the match.

This Sunday Okehampton Seconds play Callington Ladies at 2.30pm at Okehampton.
