Okehampton U16s 6 Cullompton U16s 5 THIS was a tense match that saw a lot of mistakes from both sides. Carl Poynton put over two penalties early on for Okehampton. Cullompton should have pulled back points but for some poor decision making, which allowed Okes to stop them from scoring. Okehampton finished the first half strongly, but could not turn pressure into points. In the second half Cullompton had the slope advantage and the best of the play, but could only manage one try against a very determined Okehampton defence, well marshalled by captain and full-back Jake Chisholm. Torrington U14s 0 Okehampton U14s 31 OKEHAMPTON took on Torrington in glorious weather and got back on track after a couple of serious injuries and unavailability. From the start Okehampton took the attack to their opponents and only desperate defence kept them out. Matt Harding hooking for the first time in place of the injured Chris Pyle gradually began to win good ball. Chris Humphries worked well in the lineout and the back row of Jordan Lee and Will Lethbridge got through tremendous work. Brennan Townsend opened the scoring with a penalty try after being illegally tackled while going over the in corner. Dan Curtis playing at scrum half gave Will Searle a great service at fly half and with Jamie Hignett and Eric Bright making inroads into their opponents' defence it was only a matter of time before Okehampton scored again through Peter Gillard and Brennan Townsend, who added to his tally after great running by both backs and forwards. In the second half Okehampton merely stepped up their attacks and forwards Martin Hann and Chris Humphries crashed over for well deserved tries. Eric Bright put over three convertions to end what was a comfortable victory. Andy Evans continues to improve with every game and has become a permanent front row feature. Chris Knott returning after injury played well and led by example. This team continues to develop and although small in number have a great team spirit whether in victory or defeat. Training is 5.45pm at ORFC on Friday and there is no match on the Sunday. Okes U12s 36 Honiton U12s 0 AFTER some recent poor results Okehampton bounced back with a convincing win against Honiton. Okehampton dominated from the start as Chris Courtier powered his way through for an early score which set the scene for the rest of the match. Clean ball from set play provided good running opportunities for the Okehampton backs who had one of their best performances of the season. Tom Fogarty's excellent distribution from fly half was the catalyst for a series of penetrating runs from Matt Johns and Sam Vincent in the centre. The resulting good field position allowed for Sam Ewen to go over for a typical scrum half's try. Lee Hughes' rampaging run was halted just short of the line but Okehampton managed to get the ball and Sam Cooper scored a well deserved try to give Okehampton a good half time lead. The Okehampton pack dominated the scrum for the rest of the match but things were much more even in the lineout and loose play as committed Honiton rucking restricted Okehampton's possession. The Okehampton backs had an excellent second half with great passing and support running from Ollie Kirby at full back and Henry Cooper on the wing who scored with a clinical finish. Okehampton turned the screw in the final quarter with Buster Francis making incisive runs from number eight, initially to set up Tom White for a try and then to get one for himself. Matt Johns made some excellent conversions from out wide to show real improvement in his place kicking this year.
