Okehampton Men?s Hockey 1st XI 2 Ottery Crickets Hockey Club 1 IN a friendly match, Ottery played host to Okehampton for their first game back after the Christmas break. Okehampton came into the game with a strong line-up, with veterans John Jarvis, Mark Clapham and Dave Dennis holding the defensive line well, allowing Mike Reynolds, Richard Jones and John Cross free rein in the midfield. The first goal came after some brilliant link-up play from Stuart Jarvis, Simon Grosland and Paul Feehan set up legend John Cross, letting him unleash the weapon and blast the ball into the back of the net. Ottery were unfortunately undeterred by this show of force and kept pressing Okehampton, until they sneaked an equaliser. In the second half Okehampton came out fighting and attacked relentlessly, with extra support from Tom Forrester and Dave Dennis, and won themselves a short corner, which was neatly tucked away by Jones. Man of the match: Tom Forrester. Training on astroturf this week will be Tuesday 8.30pm-9.30pm, Saturday 1pm-2.30pm; Under 16s Saturday 10am-11am.
