Young people aged 16 years and under from West Devon are invited to take part in Westden?s 2008 calendar competition. There are cash prizes to be won and a chance to see the winning design on a calendar, which will be widely distributed in West Devon. To enter the competition Westden would like youngsters to think of something they would like to do in 2008 to lessen the effects of climate change, and then to illustrate it. Ideas could range from simple everyday actions like walking to school more often to more ambitious projects like starting a school vegetable plot or encouraging recycling in the local community. Westden?s climate change awareness project workers, Claire Hariades and Geri Laithwaite, hope that taking part in the competition will encourage young people to think about climate change and how they can take positive everyday action to make a difference. ?During the course of this project we?ve visited schools and met children who have had some really good practical ideas on this issue and this is a chance for them to share their ideas?, said Claire. ?Of course, we?d like to see creative thought backed up with some real action and Westden is able to offer friendly follow-up support for groups and individuals with project ideas.? The closing date for the competition is Friday, November 2. Submissions need to be accompanied by an official entry form, available from Claire or Geri on 0845 345 5077 or downloadable from http://www.westden.co.uk">www.westden.co.uk where there is more information and ideas for climate change .
