KARATE classes for kids have returned to Horrabridge thanks to some good police work!

When the Aikido classes finished last summer, there was little left to children to do in the village, so DC David Burgess got involved and managed to get funding of £500 through the police to get some new sessions up and running.

Last week head of the British Kempo Karate Union Kevin Mills from Exeter, who is an eighth Dan and his wife Jenny, who is a third Dan, started a new class in the Methodist Church Hall in Horrabridge on Wednesday. The junior class is from 5.30pm to 6.30pm and senior class from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

DC Burgess said the funding had paid to set up the classes, appoint an instructor and acquire some kit for the children and there would be a first free session for anyone coming along. After that the charge will be £5 a session.

'We hope that the group will become self supporting once it gets going,' said DC Burgess.

'The children enjoy their martial arts so we hope there will be good support in the community.'
