IDEAS to draw more shoppers to Plymouth could pave the way for a similar project in Tavistock. A meeting of Tavistock Chamber of Commerce on Monday will hear a talk by Plymouth City manager David Draffan on the Business Improvement District, an exciting project that is bringing benefits to the city. The project aims to attract more affluent shoppers to the city through improvements to the trading environment. Retailers will have an influence in providing local services by working with the city council to provide a more attractive, safer, cleaner, accessible and better promoted centre. Tavistock Chamber of Commerce hopes the talk will generate interest within the business community for a possible project in the town. Chamber chairman David Scrivener said: ?This is an exciting concept which could be a way of bringing all Tavistock businesses together to fund real improvements to the town and help existing projects such as the Christmas lights. ?We would welcome any business representatives from Tavistock and the surrounding area to come along to this meeting.? The chamber meeting is at 7,30pm on Monday September 5 in the Bedford Hotel.
