THE homes of Okehampton will have something different through their letter boxes this Christmas.
Christians together in Okehampton will be delivering a Christmas card to every one of the homes in the town.
Students at Okehampton Primary School undertook a special project to design the Christmas card, with the theme ?Jesus is Born?.
The winning entry was by Rachel Brettal, a Year 3 pupil at the primary school, chosen by Mayor of Okehampton, Cllr Christine Marsh.
The top 30 entries in the Christmas card competition will be on display during the Edwardian Evening.
The aim this year is for the Christian churches of the town to unite and have one Christmas card delivered. The card will express Christmas greetings as well as stating the times of the various church services held over the festive period.
Christians together in Okehampton consists of the member churches of All Saints Parish Church, Fairplace Methodist & United Reformed Church, Inspiration (Church of the Nations), New Life (Assemblies of God), Okehampton Baptist Church, the Salvation Army, and St. Boniface Church.
Pastor Mike Davies, who is chairman of Christians together in Okehampton, and a member of Okehampton Town Council, said: ?As Christians we wanted to help to put out the true meaning of Christmas within our community.?
He added: ?We are extremely grateful to the staff and pupils of Okehampton Primary School for supporting us in the vision for the production of this card?.
Mr Davies said: ?So often we think of Christmas simply as a time that remembers the birth of the baby Jesus, forgetting that He is still very much alive and that the church continues to grow.
?Christianity is still the fastest growing faith in the world today. In Okehampton we have a variety of places of worship and all offer a warm welcome to anyone who seeks further information about the Christian faith.?
