OKEHAMPTON joined the nation last week and hosted an Alpha Beacon Supper as local churches invited guests to a supper intended to launch the new Alpha Course.
The event was hosted by Alpha advisers the Rev Chris Bourne from Okehampton and the Rev Alex Welby from Hatherleigh.
Okehampton?s Charter Hall was the chosen venue for the prestigious event last Wednesday, with various churches and guests being involved. The mayor and mayoress of Okehampton Cllr Tony and Mrs Sue Leech were among those attending.
Mr Bourne introduced and compered the evening, with a special endorsement from Cllr Mike Davies, as Chairman of Christians together in Okehampton and Deputy Mayor of Okehampton.
A challenging talk was provided by James Odgers from Somerset who gave an account of his varied life as a banker and lawyer, which included experience from all over the world. James focused on the journey that his life had taken in leading him to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Okehampton was also used in the national campaign and was highlighted in ?Alpha News? a newspaper circulated to millions of homes in the UK.
Mr Bourne has run Alpha Suppers in Okehampton for several years now but this was the first time the Charter Hall had been used for a Beacon Supper.
