THERE is to be an open-air service in Tavistock's town square this Sunday to celebrate the birth of the Christian church 2000 years ago.

The vicar of Tavistock John Rawlings will lead the Pentecost service for all the Christian churches in the area.

The celebrations are seen as a good time for the Christian church to show unity.

Pentecost celebrates the birth of the church 2000 years ago when Jesus' first disciples received the gift of the Holy Spirit and the 'power' to share the good news of the gospel with the world.

The service begins at 10.30am on Sunday June 11 in Bedford Square.
