BUILDING male friendships and helping father and son relationships are key aims of Inspiration (Church of the Nations) in Okehampton which has been running its 'Men of Valour' group over the past year. Pony trekking, high rope challenges, white water rafting and archery are some of the experiences enjoyed by the group during 2006. Pastor Mike Davies said the church had spent time gathering men together, once a month, for a good time of being allowed just to be themselves. 'Due to the busyness of everyday life, many men have had not had the chances to do many adventurous things in their lives — either when growing up as a boy or in adulthood,' he said. 'Within Inspiration the church has been working through some good foundational teaching as well as presenting the men with regular challenges that they need to work through as individuals or as a team. 'It is interesting what drives a man, especially when he falls in love. One of the areas we look at is keeping romance alive.' Inspiration has now taken a step further with the start of a programme to help fathers give their own sons opportunities, dedicating time to their children. Mr Davies added: 'Rather than viewing this as a time of teaching I think most view it as a time of fun and laughter.' The ladies also operate a similar programme under the title of 'Women of Worth', looking to see themselves in a different light.
