A YELVERTON church will celebrate its 100th anniversary for ten days, starting this Sunday (July 29). Rock Methodist Church in Yelverton will commemorate with a series of events. This Sunday at 10.30am a service will be held with the chairman of the Methodist District, the Rev John Carne, preaching the sermon, followed by a bring and share lunch. A week later on Sunday, August 5 at 10.30am another service will be held, but the preacher will be the president of the Methodist Conference, the Rev Dr Martyn D Atkins. Devonport Apollo Choir will perform on Tuesday, August 7 for the church?s official birthday, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £3 on the door. Then on Sunday, August 14 at 10.30am the service preacher will be Cyril Friend. Throughout the celebrations a flower-decorated church will be open to the public, with tea, coffee and biscuits available, on Saturday, August 4 from 10.30am to 4pm, and from Monday, August 6 to Saturday, August 11 between 10.30am and 12.30pm each day. Secretary of the church, Margaret Holt, formerly Margaret Owen, said: ?This is a milestone that is worthy of celebration.?
