THERE will be no excuse for forgetting anniversary dates for one Tavistock couple who are to tie the knot shortly ? they are due to take their vows on Christmas Day. Kim Smale and Mark Piper, who are both from Tavistock, will say ?I do? at 2pm in St Eustachius Church. Kim said: ?We had always wanted a winter wedding, but initially we didn?t think Christmas would be possible, then we asked John Rawlings and he said he could do it, so it?s all thanks to him really. ?It?s a magical day and to have it as our wedding day is going to make it really special ? I don?t think it could be better.? Kim said about 60 members of the couple?s families would be coming to the wedding, with extra friends coming to the evening party. The reception is being held at the scout headquarters in Pixon Lane. Kim said: ?I think people were quite excited when we told them about it. At first we didn?t think we were going to be able to tie it all in together, but we managed to find a photographer and someone for the disco ? I think it?s going to be a really nice day.? The Christmas day wedding will be conducted by the vicar of Tavistock, Prebendary John Rawlings. He said it was the first time he had ever been asked to officiate at a wedding on Christmas Day. ?It is unusual but I will have finished the normal services, so it was possible for me to do it ? it will be different,? said Mr Rawlings.
