FOUR members of Tavistock Wheelers Cycling Club braved the cold wind and showers on Christmas morning to compete in the Christmas Day Time Trial.

The 8.6-mile event, run by Westcountry Cycling Club, starts near Roborough roundabout, and proceeds to Yelverton, around the roundabout and back to Roborough.

Ten riders turned out and set off at one-minute intervals. The wind caused problems on the way to Yelverton, preventing them getting into any sort of rhythm. However, after the turn, the wind aided a speedy return to Roborough.

Plymouth Corinthian Mike Parker was the winner with a time of 25 minutes. Henry Foxhall of the Tavistock Wheelers came in second only 18 seconds behind.

Other Tavistock Wheelers results were: James Chapman, 5th (26.22); Martin Legg, 8th (28.28) and Andy Reid, 10th (32.07)

For anyone who is interested in cycling, Tavistock Wheelers meet for a gentle social ride on Sundays at 9am in Bedford Square.

Club nights are on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 8pm in the Guide Hall (near the Wharf). Feel free to come along. For information contact Henry on 01822 832216.
