A MAJOR West Devon exhibition of original antique and contemporary paintings continues until next week.
The exhibition at Elford Fine Art in Tavistock, open 10.30am until 4.30pm daily, runs until December 23.
A spokesperson for the gallery said given the current volatility of the world's financial markets, many people were looking to diversify their interests and investments.
'Fine paintings present an attractive option to put money into a tangible object of beauty which, at the same time, can be enjoyed in the home day after day,' said the spokesperson.
The show celebrates the work of nationally and internationally renowned artists spanning three centuries, with styles ranging from traditional Victorian and Edwardian to early 20th Century Modern British and Impressionism, and sparkling contemporary landscapes, seascapes and animal studies.
A strong section features the early British Impressionist painters and the pioneers of the Newlyn and St Ives art colonies a century ago.
Among the landscapes are several Dartmoor scenes by Frederick John and William Widgery, views of Gutter Tor in the Plym Valley and Brentor by Charles Edward Brittan, Merrivale by Claude H Rowbotham, Wallabrook Bridge by Bertram Morrish and two oils of Kitt's Steps and White Lady Waterfall at Lydford by George Henry Jenkins.
