THE WEST Devon Chorale is inviting people to be entertained at its second concert of the year at Tavistock Parish Church. The choir will be perform on Saturday, March 10 at 7.30pm, conducted by music director Michael Johnson with organist Christopher Moore.
Five major choral composers will be represented in a programme spanning nearly 30 years. The concert will open with Bach's motet Lobet den Herrn and continues with three motets by the Austrian romantic composer Anton Bruckner — Ave Maria, Locus Iste and Christus Factus est.
The first half will end with two works by Benjamin Britten, his only work for solo organ — his Prelude and Fugue on a Theme by Victoria and the choral cantata Rejoice the Lamb. In the second part the choir will perform Francis Poulenc's four Easter motets and two Lenten motets by the Polish composer Pawel Lukaszewski. After organ music by Peter Hurford, the evening ends with pieces by the American composer and conductor, Eric Whitacre.
