A TAVISTOCK College choir took the lead in a service in Exeter after being invited to perform at the cathedral.

The college gospel choir was the featured group for the Exeter Diocese's service of thanksgiving for education — opening and closing the service and leading a hymn.

The group's coach, Tracy Harding, said: 'We were invited because they had heard how good the choir were. A bishop came to visit us last year and was very impressed.

'There were children and young people from round the area but we were the featured choir. It was full of dignitaries and important people from the field of education.'

The choir sang 'Amazing Grace', 'This Little Light' and 'Joyful Joyful', prompting the congregation to join in clapping.

Choir member Pippa Tigwell said: 'It was really good. We'd only done stuff in Tavistock before so to get to go to Exeter Cathedral was a big step. It was a bit more challenging and gave us a taste of bigger things.'

Katie Dansie and Polly Sargent said it had been a great experience and a privilege to sing in such a beautiful cathedral with a great atmosphere.
