St Austell U16s 19

Okehampton U16s 14

OKEHAMPTON travelled to Cornwall for a tight and entertaining game. The home side opened with an interception try in the first five minutes but were unable to score again during the first half.

Okehampton were lacklustre and slow to the breakdowns and could not dominate in the lineouts due to the gusting wind and excellent opposition. Tackling was fierce and neither side could convert pressure into points, although Okehampton looked dangerous when the ball was spun wide with Brookes and Beardon on the wings.

In the second half stalemate was broken by the home side as they scored a try in the corner from a penalty move.

A further try was conceded when the ball was kicked deep into the Okehampton half.

Poor fielding and an unlucky bounce gifted a try to the St Austell support. At 19-0 down Cox and Searle rallied their team and Okehampton finally ran the ball at the home side due to increasing possession. Sizmur and Herrod-Taylor both made breaks and Okehampton looked close to scoring. From their 22, ball was spun to Clarke who broke through up the wing and passed to Brookes who raced in for a try.

Keeping up the pressure led to successive penalties as Okehampton moved into the St Austell 22. Dan Hudson was hauled down just short of the line and from the scrum ball was spread wide to see Stewart Down exploit the overlap from full back to score. Herrod-Taylor converted both tries.

This week home to Sidmouth, kick-off 11am. This is a crucial league game so all support is much appreciated ? two more home wins and Okehampton U16s will top the table.
