AS part of their work on food, Class 1 pupils at Calstock School have visited the local pub 'The Tamar Inn' recently, to cook food to sell to other children at the school. The recipes were devised by the landlady Mrs Sam Maynard, a parent of two pupils at the school. Chef and landlord Dougal Maynard was on hand to explain to the children how to make the food. The class were able to make their own pizzas with their choice of toppings as well as a fruit fool and chocolate flapjacks. The finished products were then sold in aid of Cancer Research. Alison Nettleship, class teacher, said: 'This has been a valuable experience for the children. 'They have thought about the economics in making and cooking food and have been considering the need for businesses, like the local pub, to make a profit. 'Sam and Dougal have made the experience fun and rewarding, allowing the children to create some fabulous food. 'The experience of working in the community like this has been fantastic, and at the same time we have raised money for charity.'
