WHITCHURCH Village Produce and Craft Show was staged on September 17 for the fifth year since its reintroduction, and despite a difficult growing season the standard of flowers, fruit and vegetable entries was as high as ever.

Craft entries were a little lower, but overall total entries were up on last year with more than 300 exhibits from 110 exhibitors with an encouragingly high entry from children in the area.

Despite a blustery showery afternoon the hall was crowded with visitors and exhibitors eager to see the displays.

Prizes were presented by the Rev Sean Brassil, priest in charge at Whitchurch.

Prize winners: Goodland Cup for flowers and foliage class, Kate McCormick; Margaret Clark Trophy for floral art, Kate McCormick: Mary Williams Cup for cookery, Liz Hough; Anthony Trophy for preserves, Roger Downing: Gidley Cup for vegetables, Pat Eslick: Lister Trophy for handicraft, Pauline Anstead: Clark Bond Cup for photography, shared between Jane Portman and Bernard James: Leach Trophy for overall show winner, Kate McCormick.

Rosette for highest score in age 7 and under class, Alice Bickley; rosette for highest score in 8 to 11 class, Ellen Bickley.

The committee expressed thanks to everybody who worked so hard behind the scenes to make the show the success, with special thanks to Frosts Rosettes and Dart Print.
